Content Meets: Kevin Stone
Kevin Stone is someone who has been responsible for not only the longevity of great British brands but also the resurgence and distribution of lesser known Heritage companies. Having worked as Fred Perry's European sales and marketing director before becoming the Sales Director at Ben Sherman, Kevin has rightfully gained a reputation as one of the most distinguished figures in British menswear. Since then Kevin has formed the Stone Agency representing brands such as Baracuta, BD Baggies, Spiewak, Griffin, Millican, Etiquette Clothiers and We Are Ground amongst others.
Kevin took the time to share a few words with us.
CS: What does an average day consist of for you?
KS: Up early, usually 5:45am half an hour on the running machine or exercise bike, quick coffee and then catch the train into London from Wiltshire, we live in the middle of nowhere in between Salisbury and Devizes. Depending on the time of year it could be sales appointments in the showroom, we have a boutique menswear agency in town, we look after Baracuta, Spiewak, BD Baggies and Millican, or I'm over at the Baracuta store in Newburgh Street which opened in August, I'm a partner in the store with the brand owners or I'm travelling overseas to work on Baracuta with the design and marketing teams.
CS: What are you wearing today?
KS: Work jacket by Vetra, handkerchief by Drake's, shirt by BD Baggies, Vest by Baracuta, Trousers by Engineered Garments, 1970's Converse all star low and no pants.
CS: Which labels and styles have influenced you over the years
KS: I guess my sensibility leans towards brands with a provenance, I've always been a fan of British brands first getting into clothes on the back of the Northern Soul and Jazz Funk era brands such as Fred Perry, Ben Sherman etc and then when money became more readily available to me and I started working in Primo's Menswear in Leeds I found myself gravitating towards more International brands remembering my favourite outfit consisting of a Paul Smith Double breasted blazer, Giorgio Armani polo shirt, Virgola Trousers, a pair of Burlington socks and a pair of John Lobb loafers.
CS: What plans do you have on the horizon?
KS: We are always looking at new brands for the agency, we like brands that have a realness about them, brands with a heritage and a back story but most importantly they must be forward thinking and relevant, and of course we are already thinking about our next retail venture.
CS: Whats your favourite City you've visited and why?
KS: I've been lucky to have travelled a lot over the years and having visited Japan several times it has to be Tokyo, I love the tongue-gasmic food, the worlds most sophisticated railway and subway networks and of course the clothes shops.
CS: Tell us something about yourself no one in menswear knows?
KS: I auditioned for X Factor (as a bet).
